Love in Real Light: Preparing For Your Engagement Photos in Upstate SC That Feel Honest

If you’re a little lost when planning out your session, don’t worry, I’m here to help. Here are some tips:

• Think about what the two of you love to do together or often do together, and about the spaces that you hang out in or areas that you feel the most comfortable. Those are the spaces where you will feel more at home and therefore look more relaxed in your images.

  • Ex. If you love grabbing coffee together, cooking dinner, going on hikes, exploring a new place, or spending a lazy morning at home, let’s build the session around that.

• Pinterest can absolutely be part of the process! It’s a great place to gather ideas, figure out what you’re drawn to, and create a general vibe for your session.

  • Try browsing Pinterest and seeing what locations, styling, lighting, or overall mood you generally gravitate to. That’s all helpful information. I don’t want my clients to feel like they have to recreate someone else’s photos shot-for-shot, but Pinterest can be used as a way to show what you love visually. Then, we can take those ideas and make them feel personal to the two of you.

So many vibes and cozy places that look cool with light here! This is a great place for couples who really want to lean into aesthetics and a more styled shoot, or who may be more fashion obsessed since shoots here look straight out of a clothing catalogue.

Recreate a first date

Let’s revisit that very first stroll around the city together, or that intimate dinner where you fell in love or popped the question. No one else is going to have this same love story, so why don’t we tell yours visually, down to the details.

Museum moment

Why not create art in front of all the art? Art museums especially give so many opportunities for unique framing using architecture or literal frames. Plus, the one you love is art themself!

Hiking

The Upstate has so many beautiful trails and lakes, so why not incorporate that into your photos if that’s what ~floats your boat? If you’re a more outdoorsy couple, there’s not need to force a traditional, studio engagement shoot when we can just go to the woods!
