How to get the most out of your photoshoot
Dear future client,
I cannot wait to meet you! I’m so glad you’re here and that you’ve chosen me to capture your special moment, whether it’s your downtown Greenville engagement session or just a destination-styled shoot that you’ve been dying to pull off.
I understand getting in front of the camera can make a lot of people nervous, especially if it's your first time. But don’t worry, I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way. We’re gonna have so much fun together!
Preparing for your photo session
Doing things to look and feel your best before the day of the shoot is so important. Helping build your own confidence prior to stepping in front of my camera is key to getting the most out of your session, and being able to have fun during our time together!
Wardrobe magic
Feeling good means looking good! So, choose an outfit that makes you feel good in your skin, and makes you love what you see in the mirror. Try to pick colors and styles you know and love, and that reflect your personality. Buying a brand-new outfit for a photo shoot is always fun, but make sure you’ve had time to feel comfortable in it; it’s okay to go with that tried and true favorite dress if that’s what’s working for you!
Timing is everything
Plan ahead and arrive early! Being punctual ensures we have ample time to relax, get into the groove with each other, and enjoy the experience without rushing. Give yourself more time than you think you need to get ready as well. Being able to put those finishing touches on hair and makeup will really make a difference in your confidence going into the session, so make sure you have time for them.
If your session involves your partner, give yourselves some time together in the day or get ready together. I personally love making time to relax with each other either before or after to make sure you’re in sync and ready to be in front of the camera. Try to grab a meal together, maybe schedule a nice dinner for afterwards so you can really make a date out of it.
Being able to feel like you’re *together* before getting in front of the camera is going to make these photos even more incredible, and really showcase your love.
Props and personal touches
Feel free to bring along something or someone (*cough cough, please bring your pets) that adds a personal touch – your honors cords, your favorite books, or even your favorite beverage! These are a great way to make sure these photos really reflect who you are.
Props can also be fun to play with, as things like bouquets and veils can add more motion to photos, and can give you something to do with your hands.
Doing your research
While it’s not required, I do encourage clients to look at photos on Pinterest or Instagram and find photoshoots they are really drawn to. That way, we can work off that vibe and inspiration to create photos that feel just like you imagined and dreamed of but with our own special twist.
On the day of the shoot
Be Yourself
Relax, smile, and have fun!
I know it may sound easier said than done, but once we get going, I promise you’ll be in the moment and loosen up.
Laugh, dance, and play – just let loose and enjoy the moment. The more relaxed and joyful you are, the more magical the photos turn out! We’re gonna pop champagne, giggle the whole time, and just enjoy ourselves.
Natural expressions capture the essence of who you are, so don't be afraid to show your true self. I’ll pose you (and your partner) as needed, but put some trust in yourself.
Get comfortable
When getting ready for your shoot on the day of, make sure you’ve got time to try on outfits and find something that makes you feel good in your skin. Wearing something that allows you to move and that is comfortable will make for better photos because your outfit will be one less thing you could potentially stress about.
Trust your photographer
Put some trust in me as well! You're in good hands, I promise! I’ll give you guidance throughout the session, and I promise it’s all because I’m there to make you look and feel amazing and capture your moments.
Communication and Collaboration
Share your ideas
I’m here to make your vision come to life. If you have a photo you want to draw inspo from, a pose you want to try, or a location you want to hit, I’m always going to be down. Share your preferences and special requests with me so that I can make sure you’re thrilled with the photos you receive and the process!
Poses and pizzazz
Don't worry about striking the perfect pose; like I’ve said, just be yourself! Besides, there is something about those candid moments that end up making for the perfect photo. And if all else fails, your photographer will guide you; that’s my job, after all. However, I’m here for all the ideas, so feel free to suggest poses or settings you'd like to try – it's a group effort here!
Embrace the unexpected
Be open to spontaneity!
Sometimes, the most magical shots happen when and where you’d least expect them. If there’s a nice patch of light, a new, cooler angle I’ve found, or an idea that comes in the moment, I’m always open to it.
Remember, this photo session isn't just about snapshots; it's about capturing your story, personality, and the celebrations of your life. Embrace the experience and have fun.
Well, folks, that’s all from me. It really is about having fun at the end of the day. I’m here to guide you every step of the way, so there’s nothing to worry about. As long as you show up looking beautiful — and you will — we’re going to take some incredible photos, I promise.
