Prepping for your boudoir session
Hello, hello! Since it’s heating up outside, I figured we’d turn up the heat in the blog as well and break down a type of photography session that I think we don’t talk enough about: boudoir. Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Isn't boudoir photography just for models and celebrities?” No! I'm here to tell you that boudoir is for everyone, regardless of age, size, or shape.
The word boudoir can sound intimidating, but boudoir is all about embracing every inch of your body, every curve, every scar, and every imperfection, and saying, “Hell yes, I am beautiful!” So, grab your favorite lingerie and let's explore the top reasons why everyone deserves a killer boudoir session.
So, what is boudoir?
In case you didn’t already know, boudoir is sensual photography where the subject is stripped down and posing in a way that celebrates their beauty and sexuality. Typically, these photos are for private use and are commonly made into albums to be given to a partner as a gift or on the wedding day.
Why boudoir?
Empowerment: A boudoir session isn't just about looking good; it's about feeling good inside and out. No two boudoir sessions are alike, and they shouldn’t be. They should be as unique as the individual being photographed! Boudoir is all about embracing your body exactly as it is and celebrating all the curves, quirks, and freckles that make you *you*.
Whether you're a size 2 or 22, boudoir is your chance to own your beauty and radiate confidence like never before. In a world that often tries to dictate what beauty should look like, a boudoir session is your chance to flip the script and define what gorgeous looks like on your own terms.
A boudoir session done right should give you the confidence to reject unrealistic standards and embrace your unique beauty. It's about saying, 'I am enough, just as I am,' and praising the strength and resilience that shines through in every photo.
Self-love and self-care: Sometimes, self-care can take the form of a night in and a face mask. Other times, it can mean putting on whatever makes you feel the sexiest and getting in front of the camera.
A boudoir session is a wonderful opportunity to treat yourself and indulge in a bit of self-love. In today's busy world, it's all too easy to put everyone else's needs before your own, but a boudoir session is your chance to prioritize yourself for a change. It's a chance to pamper yourself, unleash your inner goddess, and create stunning images that celebrate you and the body that is sustaining you.
Boudoir is designed so that you can unapologetically be yourself and love your body in all its glory. You are worthy of love, respect, and admiration exactly as you are, and boudoir images are a statement that you refuse to settle for anything less.
The fun and excitement: From choosing the perfect lingerie to striking a pose in front of the camera, every moment is an opportunity to let loose, have fun, and embrace your playful side. Plus, working with a talented photographer is like having your own personal cheerleader, rooting for you every step of the way and helping you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Just ask any of my clients, boudoir or not!
I will always be your number-one supporter, lifting you up and helping you bask in your beauty and strength. Whether you're treating yourself to a session solo or sharing the experience with your closest friends or partner, boudoir photography is an exciting new way for you to explore yourself.
Feeling comfortable during your session
Communication: This is important in every session, but especially during boudoir, because of the intimacy involved. If you have a question at any time during the session, don’t be afraid to speak up. Even if you need to take a break, let your photographer know so that they can accommodate your needs. In a boudoir setting, the lines of communication are always open, and I’ll be your hype woman and your confidant.
Trust: I talk about the trust and relationship between photographer and subject a lot here, and it extends to boudoir as well! When you choose a boudoir photographer, you’re allowing someone to see all of you, and it’s a very vulnerable moment. Don’t be afraid to ask for a consultation face-to-face to make sure you have the right rapport with the photographer you’re picking.
Feeling like yourself: Whether it’s your outfit, the props, or the location, it’s important to stay true to yourself during boudoir. If you’re not used to the more intense facets of boudoir, like bondage, your first boudoir shoot may not be the time to branch out. And while studios provide a great environment for these sessions, your own home works just as well! It’s all about what will make you feel comfortable and like yourself so that you can be empowered.
